Energy trading

Ørsted’s energy traders analyse complex data to manage risk and maximise profitability in the fluctuating energy markets. We also help managing risk effectively for our Onshore and Offshore business units as they develop new green energy projects.

Day-to-day, we’re highly empowered and autonomous in our roles and get to see the results of our decisions very clearly in profit and loss reports. The role is only getting more exciting as the renewables industry moves away from relying on state subsidies – ultimately the green transition can only be achieved with a professional, high-performance trading setup.


Power Purchase Agreements

One important way Ørsted sells the renewable energy we generate is through long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with big companies. By agreeing to buy power for 10 to 15 years at a fixed price, they can demonstrate their participation in the green transformation, while eliminating the risk of unpredictable price fluctuations for both parties.

In the PPA Origination and Execution team, we find customers for these deals, structure the right solution for their needs, and negotiate the contract. It’s a highly varied role with a lot of responsibility – an individual team member takes ownership of the whole process with a given customer, from the first meeting to executing the deal.
